For 2009 the Sergio García Foundation (Fundación Sergio García) has organised a nation-wide golf tour comprising 16 golf tournaments.
Desert Springs Golf Club has been selected as one of the venues for the 2009 circuit, with a tournament being held on Saturday 20th June 2009.
The tournament is an 18-Hole individual stableford competition, open to all competitors. The exact handicap limit is 24 for men, 36 for ladies and 28 for juniors. Players will be divided into two categories depending on handicaps: Category One from 0 to 16 and Category Two from 16.1 or higher.
The Sergio García Foundation actively supports both the physically and the mentally disabled in the world of golf with a specific development programme for golf instructors aimed at giving them an understanding of the specific needs of the disabled, especially in terms of the provision of golf lessons, actively encouraging them to either improve their own golfing ability or simply to take up the game.
Prizes will be awarded to the winners of each category with the overall scratch winner receiving an invitation to play in the ‘Sergio García Charity Pro-Am 2009’, to be hosted in Lanzarote. The cost for accommodation and entrance fee for the Pro-Am will be covered by the foundation. Travel arrangements must be organised by the player.
The entrance fee for this event which includes a personal donation from each player of 25€ for the Sergio García Foundation is 25€ for members and 50€ for non-members.
