Competitions Committee Announcement

Desert Springs Golf Club

Allocation of Competition Prize Fund

Further to a meeting of the Club Committee on Thursday 17th October, the Club has been requested to issue the following announcement by the Competitions Committee:

Income:

Entry fees for competitions are 10 euro for a one-day competition and 15 euro for a two-day competition. This covers both Federated Members and Guests with an internationally-recognised handicap.

The Pro Shop receives the entry fees and total income is uplifted by 30% by the Pro Shop to provide the Competitions Committee with an Overall Prize Fund.

Expenditure/Allocation:

The summary below is the framework used to decide prizes. Actual expenditure on prizes is governed by the Overall Prize Fund. As a result, the policy is flexible.

With adequate income, prizes are awarded as below:

One-Day Social Competitions:

Federated Members: Pro Shop vouchers to the value of: 1st (80 euro), 2nd (50) and 3rd (30) in one or more handicap categories, depending on the number of entries.

Guests: The total of all guest entry fees is returned in Pro Shop vouchers for one or more prizes, depending on number of entries.

Nearest the Pins: Pro shop voucher (25 euro), generally for Men/Ladies combined. Guests also eligible. Number of Nearest Pin prizes governed by size of Prize Fund.

Board and Trophy Competitions:

Overall winner – a Federated Member – receives a Pro Shop voucher for 120 euro.

The value and allocation of Category prizes – for Federated Members – and Guest prize/s – is then the same as for one-day competitions, depending on the number of entries.

Nearest the Pins: Pro shop voucher (25 euro), generally for Men/Ladies combined. Guest also eligible. Number of Nearest Pin prizes governed by size of Prize Fund.

Two-Day Board Competitions:

Where the Prize Fund allows:

Category prizes for Federated Members are: 1st (120 euro), 2nd (80 euro) and 3rd (50 euro).

Guests: The total of all guest entry fees is returned in Pro Shop vouchers for one or more prizes, depending on number of entries.

There may also be a prize for the Best Second Day score of a player not otherwise in the main prizes.

Extra Vouchers:

During the course of the year, Extra Pro Shop Vouchers are issued to the value of the difference (if any) between Income and Expenditure on each competition.

These Extra Vouchers are used to fund:

Golf Prizes on Captain’s Drive-In and Captain’s Charity Day. This enables all the entry fees for these competitions to go directly to the Captain’s chosen charities.

If necessary, they are also used to subsidize the Club Championships.

In 2019, Captain’s Drive-in prizes were funded with Extra Vouchers worth 350 euro and Captain’s Charity Day prizes were funded with Extra Vouchers worth 400 euros. (At both events, additional prizes were provided by the Captain.)

Examples:

Several examples show the need to be flexible in prize allocation.
