Golf Course Maintenance

GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT’S

NEWS LETTER

September 2016

Dear Member / Property Owner,

Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in July, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course in August, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in September 2016.

AUGUST COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE

Creeping Bentgrass Tee conversion to Seashore Paspalum

The overseeding conversion process to the existing creeping bentgrass tees with seashore paspalum has been completed as per the schedule.  The existing turf quality of the tee surfaces has not been affected. The newly seeded seashore paspalum has germinated and over the following months will continue to establish. The conversion process will be seamless, with the majority of the establishment growth taking place in 2017 during the summer months. This will result in reducing the present and extensive maintenance programme and create even more positive and consistent playing conditions throughout the year, with an even better quality playing surface than at present.

Hydro Jet Greens

The hydro jetting of the golf greens has been completed.

Fresh Water Irrigation

The fresh water irrigation programme to reduce the impact of salty irrigation water and salt accumulation on the putting surfaces has been completed for 2016.

SEPTEMBER COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

Annual Golf Course Verti-Cutting and Overseeding Program

The maintenance program of verti-cutting and overseeding will commence on Monday 29th August, on all rye grass areas of the golf course to improve the turf quality and density after the summer months. During this time a local rule of “preferred lies” will be introduced. The reception staff will be updated with the golf course conditions on a daily basis. The program will take 2 weeks to complete.

Solid Tining Greens

The Indiana golf greens will be solid tined with 5mm pencil tines, increasing oxygen uptake to the root system, which will reduce the negative impact of accumulated salts within the soil profile. These holes are only open and noticeable for 2 days. There is also no noticeable effect to the playing quality of the green’s surface during this period.

Driving Range Tee

The grass driving range tee will be verticut, overseeded with ryegrass and topdressed to improve the playing surface in preparation for the playing season.

In the knowledge that all Property Owners and Members need to have as much notice as possible concerning particular aspects of the golf course maintenance schedule that may temporarily effect the playing conditions of the green’s surface, thus enabling them to plan particular holidays accordingly, please see below the remaining hollow coring date for 2016.
