Golf Course Superintendent Newsletter July

JULY 2019

Dear Member / Property Owner,

Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in June, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in July 2019.

New Putting Green

The construction work and seeding of the new putting green has been completed. The new grass has started to germinate. The plants that were located within the new putting green surface design and consequently removed, will be replanted around the new green and new dry wadi.

Landscaping Projects

The project of introducing new plant material from the cactus nursery around the golf course has started with the initial clearing of the cactus nursery off site. In the coming weeks plants will be planted on the golf course.

Solid Tining Greens

The solid tining of the greens with 5mm pencil tines was completed as per the schedule.

Fairways Spiking and Sand Topdressing

The process of spiking and sand topdressing the fairways as part of the aeration program has started.  This particular aspect of golf course maintenance is both extremely necessary and time consuming, so we ask you to please bear with us until its completion. Disruption to play as always will be kept to an absolute minimum.

Hydro Jet Greens

The greens will be aerified with the “Hydrojet” machine. This system of aeration creates small pin sized air holes in the green by the use of high-pressure water, improving water and air movement throughout the soil profile. There will be no adverse effect to the quality of the greens playing surface during this time.

Hand Watering Greens and Tees

Throughout the summer months hand watering of the greens and tees will take place. Please be advised that this is an essential part of summer course maintenance to improve soil moisture consistency and reduce water use. Hand watering cannot be stopped during play for this reason.

Fairways Spiking and Sand Topdressing

The remaining holes will be spiked and sand topdressed to help improve the playing surfaces of the fairways.
