GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT’S

NEWS LETTER

March 2016

Dear Member / Property Owner,

Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in January, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course in February, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in March 2016.

FEBRUARY COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE

Verti Draining

The verti draining of the fairways will now start in March 2016.

Green’s Collar Turfing

The program of replacing turf on the green’s collars will take place in March 2016.

Solid Tining Greens

The program of solid tining the greens was completed as per the maintenance schedule.

Golf Course Landscaping Improvements

15 new washingtonia palm trees were planted, on Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd of March,  running up the right hand side of the 18th hole with the aim of preventing an errant hit golf shot ending up out of bounds entering properties. Disruption to golf was kept to an absolute minmum. The palms on the 16th hole,  near the tee complex,  will be planted on Wednesday 2nd March.

Renovation of the Golf Academy Bunker

The small pot bunker at the chipping green has been renovated as per the maintenance schedule.

MARCH COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

Verti Draining Fairways

The program of verti-draining (solid tine aerification) the fairways will start in March. This particular aspect of golf course maintenance is both extremely necessary and time consuming, so we ask you to please bear with us until its completion. Disruption to play, as always, will be kept to an absolute minimum.

Green’s Collar Turfing

The Rye grass green’s collars, over time,  have become contaminated with different species of grasses that cannot be controlled chemically. This turf grass will be removed mechanically and new Rye grass turf will be placed. Green’s collars 17, 18, and the chipping green are the most affected.

Driving Range Grass Tee

The driving range grass tee will be available for use upto and including the Easter golfing period; thereafter the tee will be closed for maintenance. This will involve the verticutting and overseeding of the tee surface. This is the optimum time to establish new seed, which will improve the recovery rate of the playing surface. The tee will reopen after recovery.

In the knowledge that all Property Owners and Members need to have as much notice as possible concerning particular aspects of the golf course maintenance schedule that may temporarily effect the playing conditions of the green’s surface, thus enabling them to plan particular holidays accordingly, please see below the new hollow coring dates in2016.
