Spanish Seniors Professionals

It gives us great pleasure to announce that Desert Springs has been selected by the Real Federación Española de Golf (RFEG) to host the 2016 Spanish Senior Professionals Championship between Wednesday 30th November & Friday 2nd December 2016.

This is the second time that Desert Springs will be host to the Spanish Seniors Professional Championship. Back in 2007, Emilio Rodríguez defeated Juan Quirós in a breathtaking final round on The Indiana course, resulting in the 72nd hole being ‘judge and jury’ of a fantastic ending to define the champion. Noteable and renowned Professionals such as Juan Quirós, Emilio Rodríguez, Santiago Luna and José Manuel Carriles have already confirmed their entrance into the event.

Desert Springs is renowned for being host to numerous National Tournaments of great importance including; The National Junior and Boys National Championship, won by European Tour player, Alejandro Cañizares, The Spanish International Championship (King’s Cup) in 2004 and 2007 won by Heidar Bragason and John Parry respectively and The Spanish Senior and Ladies Professionals Championships, won by Emilio Rodríguez and former Solheim Cup Player Tania Elósegui.

All of the events above, in addition to the 2015 and 2016 EuroPro Tour Championships confirms Desert Springs as a great venue to host such high profile events.

RFEG’s Professionals’ Committee President, Jaime Salaverri, commented:

“On behalf of the RFEG, we are delighted to return to Desert Springs after the experience of the 2007 Spanish Senior Professional Championship. The demanding layout combined with the superb conditions in which the course is constantly presented guarantees a very successful event.”

Desert Springs Director of Golf, Simon Coaker, remarked:

“Since the inauguration of the Indiana Course in 2001, Desert Springs has developed a strong relationship with the RFEG. We consider it an honor that the RFEG has once again selected Desert Springs to be host to yet another prestigious event from within their tournament calendar, adding further confirmation of the quality of the course, the resort, its’ facilities and service provided.”

Obviously it is imperative that we give our property owners and members as much notice as possible of the programme of events, enabling them to plan their visits to the Resort accordingly.”
