Desert Springs Resort has launched a major investment programme aimed at enhancing sustainability, improving water efficiency and further elevating the quality of the Indiana golf course.
The project represents a total investment of €2,893,577.41 and is supported by the Regional Government of Andalusia (Junta de Andalucía) through its programme for drought mitigation, climate change adaptation and water efficiency within the Andalusian tourism sector. The initiative is co-financed by Next Generation EU funds, with an approved grant of €1,880,825.31, under Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
One of the most significant developments will be the installation of a Reversible Electrodialysis (EDR) water treatment system, enabling the reuse of treated wastewater for irrigation purposes and reducing reliance on external water sources.
The investment also includes the modernisation of the golf course irrigation system, the upgrade of hydraulic infrastructure, improvements to water recirculation within lakes and watercourses, and the gradual conversion of selected turf areas to more drought-resistant warm-season grass species.
In addition, the project incorporates landscape enhancements using species adapted to Almería’s desert environment, together with the development of infrastructure to transport reclaimed water from the treatment facilities in Cuevas del Almanzora and Vera to Desert Springs Resort.
Works have already commenced and will continue over the coming months. Desert Springs Resort will keep property owners, members and visitors informed of progress and any temporary impact on the playability of the golf course.
Through this investment, Desert Springs Resort further strengthens its commitment to sustainability, innovation and the continuous enhancement of the experience enjoyed by property owners, members, visitors and golfers alike.
