GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

‘NEWS LETTER’

JUNE 2012

Dear Member / Property Owner,

Following on from the ‘The Golf Course Superintendents News Letter’ sent to you in April which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course in May, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in June 2012.

MAY COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE

Verti Draining Fairways

The programme of verti-draining the Indiana Course fairways will continue later in the season.

Irrigation Changes to Green Surround Hole 1

The changes to the irrigation system on green surround 1 will now take place later in the season.

Hollow Coring Green’s Approaches

The hollow coring, topdressing and overseeding of the green approaches have been completed on the remaining holes 1, 2, 8, 10, 15, 16, 17, and 18.

Hollow Coring Greens

The greens were solid tined to replace the hollow coring program scheduled. The greens were lightly topdressed to improve green speed and smoothness.

JUNE COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME

Fungicide Spraying

The preventative fungicide spraying program of all grass areas will commence in June. This safeguard helps protect the course against strong summer turf grass diseases. Signs will be placed on fairway 1, green surround 1 and fairway 9 to remind all players that spraying is in progress. The reception staff will also advise players before play when spraying is in progress. Please remember to wash your hands after play.

Hand Watering

Throughout the summer months hand watering of the greens and tees will take place. Please be advised that this is an essential part of summer maintenance. Hand watering cannot be stopped during play for this reason.

Hydro Jet Greens

The greens will be aerified with the “Hydro Jet” machine. This system of aeration creates small pin sized air holes in the green by the use of high pressure water, reducing soil compaction and improving water and air movement throughout the soil profile. There will be no adverse effect to the quality of the green playing surface during this time.

2012 Greens Hollow Coring Dates

In the knowledge that all Property Owners and Members need to have as much notice as possible concerning particular aspects of the golf course maintenance schedule that may temporarily effect the playing conditions of the greens surface, thus enabling them to plan particular holidays accordingly, please see below the remaining scheduled coring date for 2012.

5th and 6th November*

*In Addition the Putting Green, Chipping Green and Driving Range Tee will be closed for hollow coring on Wednesday 7th November.

This particular program is an essential part of golf course maintenance. This practice creates the required environment for strong vigorous roots to grow, the very essence of golf course maintenance.
