A message from the Club Captain

Dear Member, Owner

Matches

The first match in the “Desert Cup” was won by Desert Springs in a convincing 5 ½ – ½ win over Valle del Este. The match was followed by a very social evening in the Crocodile Club. Unfortunately, Aguilon have been struggling to raise a team, hopefully this will be resolved in October.

The 9-Club tournament did not take place, again because other clubs could not raise a team. Thank you to all members who made themselves available for the Desert Springs Team.

Handicaps

The way the WHS has been introduced for clubs such as Desert Springs with multi-national members is still causing problems and consequently in 2023 the committee will continue to require all members who would like to participate in Club competitions to be members of the RFEG.

As far as possible handicap calculations for all Club competition formats will follow the WHI guidelines and will be on the competition slip at the start of the round.

New Handicap Qualifying Competition

As the RFEG only allow one qualifying card per month a Tuesday Competition has been set up. This allows you to submit a card just by telling Resort Reception before you go out into the course that you are entering the competition. You can still choose who you play with, when you play and if you want to play in another social competition at the same time – you just have to putt out and play to the rules of golf. A minimum of six golfers each week for this to count as a qualifier. If there is a good uptake on this competition format we can consider doing the same on another day of the week.

Members Score Entry after competitions

This has now reverted to Resort Reception entering competitors scores. I would like to remind you that your card should be well presented and follow any instructions that are on the slip given out with your card. Both of these factors have an impact on the time difference between the last group finishing their round and the prize presentation taking place (as well as the results being correct).

Charity Day Assistance

If you would like to make/donate any snacks, cakes, savories, pizzas, tortillas, drinks etc. for participating golfers  (who are asked to make a Charity donation when consuming), please contact Lynne (dscaptain@btinternet.com)

Calendar Orders

Many thanks to Colin Henderson for taking pictures every month in preparation of the Desert Springs Owners Calendar 2023. Orders (10 euros each) can be placed now, again via dscaptain@btinternet.com, and 100% of the income goes to the Captains Charity.

 Treasure Hunt

Dick and Helen Dunphy are preparing another great Treasure Hunt for all members and owners. This is a great way of finding out more about the area (car required for the first half). More details will be available at the weekend.

Mixed pairs Open

A new mixed pairs open tournament takes place on Wednesday 12th October. All are welcome to participate in a better ball format, you just have to enter as a mixed pair! An element of the entry fee will go to charity and there will be jugs of Sangria provided for all competitors after the tournament courtesy of the Desert Springs “First Lady”.

Committee Meeting

There is a committee meeting on 6th October. If you have any points that you would like to have discussed, please either email me on dscaptain@btinternet.com  or catch me when convenient in the bar.

Desert Springs Classic – Sunset Tapas

There is a Sunset Buffet and drinks evening on the Clubhouse roof terrace starting at 17.00hrs. on Saturday 1st October. With so many members and owners having been forced to stay away from Desert Springs over the last couple of years it would be great to catch up with as many of you as possible at this event.

Charity Day Auction

I would like to close entries for this on Monday 3rd October so that I can prepare, and circulate, the items and start taking bids in advance of the “live” auction on the night. If you have an item that you would like to donate, please contact me on dscaptain@btinternet.com

Charity Express Raffle

All donations for raffle prizes will be gratefully received as the raffle is a great earner for the Charity and the more prizes we have the more tickets we can sell!

Charity Donations

If you would like to make a direct Charity Donation these can be made to the Captain’s Charity Bank Account managed by Richard Fuller, the details are:
