Firstly, might I thank you all for your kindness and generosity on the day of the Captain’s Drive-In. It was a really fun day in lovely weather during which you contributed over €3000 for this year’s Captain’s Charities (Mojacar Area Cancer Support (MACS) and Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer (AECC)). I have pictures of all the teams who took part in the golf competition and will be circulating those to you on an individual basis in due course. There are a good number, so it may take me a little while to identify each one and send it to you, but send it I will. Many of you have photographs taken during the evening of that day at the Crocodile Club and I will endeavour to collect them from you, collate them and produce a little electronic photo album of the day. Those of us who were there will never forget the fabulous Jackie Fuller singing ‘One Way or Another’, but a photograph or two might help us remember the rest of the event as we approach our twilight years.
Whilst I am on a photographic theme I thought that it might be a nice idea to produce a Desert Springs Golf Resort Calendar 2018 to be sold in the run-up from the Charity Day at the end of October until Christmas this year, the proceeds from any sales going to the charities mentioned above. The calendar will be produced from photographs of the course and resort taken by members and visitors and so, to that end, I would like to run a competition to choose the most suitable pictures to show our lovely course and resort at its best.
I therefore kindly invite you to submit any suitable photographs which you have taken for consideration. Submissions can be made via the Facebook page ‘Desert Springs Golf Resort Calendar’ which has been set up specifically for the purpose. You will also be able to vote for other photographs which have been submitted using the Facebook “Like” facility and to leave comments/constructive criticism if you so wish.
Please note that you will need to have a Facebook account in order to submit entries. If you ask a friend or family member to submit an entry via their account please use the Comment facility to record your authorship of the photo. If you don’t have a Facebook account, and just have one photograph to submit, then feel free to send it to me as an attachment and I will get it to our technical advisor. Photos will need to be a minimum resolution of 1648 x 1276 pixels and in Landscape format, i.e. with the longest side horizontal.
The final selection of 13 photographs (Cover plus 12 months) will be made by a panel of judges which will comprise myself, one lady member and one gentleman member with a photographer, James Greenall, acting as a technical & artistic advisor to the judges on the merits of the submissions. The decisions of the three member judges will be final and a Bottle of Champagne will be awarded to the winner of the ‘Best Picture Overall’.
The closing date for entries will be 31st August 2017. Credit for each photo will be given on the page in the calendar. So please get out on the course with your camera or smartphone and get snapping, or search through your archives for suitable pictures. We are looking forward to seeing your entries.
As promised, I will write on a regular basis with updates and news but, in the meantime, I hope you enjoy a wonderful summer and I look forward to seeing you again in late September.
