A message from the incoming Club Captain

Captain’s Drive-In 2023

Dear Member, Owner

It is not too long until my year as Desert Springs Golf Club Captain starts and so I thought it would be a good time to send you a message. It is a huge honour for me to be taking up this role and I am really looking forward to it.

Before I start, I’m sure you would all join me in sending congratulations to Paul Taylor, who has had a busy year as Captain, with many events and matches having been organised throughout the year and a large amount of money raised for Asprodalba. Well done Paul.

My Drive-in will take place on Friday 7th April 2023 and I am already getting a little nervous.

My theme will be “Law Enforcement”.  Please feel free to be as literal or as imaginative as you wish.  The day will start at the Cave Bar for pastries, coffee and cava, followed by my attempt to hit the golf ball from the first tee (please remember when placing your flags, that I don’t use a driver!). The format for the team golf will be a Texas Scramble and mulligans will be available.  As usual, you will have the chance to choose the tee that you start/finish on.  The evening event will be held in El Torrente Restaurant, with a 3-course meal with drinks during service, then the prize presentation and raffle and then straight in to the music.  I am excited to say that The Springers have agreed to play for us, followed by Marilyn Shipley and Derek, so we should have a great evening. The dress code for the evening is black and/or white, to continue with the Police theme.

I really hope that all of you that play golf will join in the fun on the day and those that don’t play golf will join us for the evening.

Many thanks to all of the Committee members, who have helped to run things throughout the year and also to all those who are standing for election for this coming year.  Special thanks should go to Chris Robinson, who is standing down from the Committee after many years as Handicap Secretary.  Thank you, Chris.

You may be aware that I have nominated Chris Mear as my Vice Captain and I hope you will all support this.  I am really looking forward to working closely with Chris and the rest of the committee.

I intend to continue supporting Asprodalba, as our chosen charity.  Gail and I visited the Asprodalba Centre in Vera just before Christmas and we met many of the people who use the centre and some of the staff.  Wow, what an emotional visit that was and it reinforced to us what a very worthwhile cause this is for us all to support.  Thank you all in advance.

Finally, if anyone feels able to donate any items of the raffle or food or drink for the Hacienda, I would be really grateful.

My contact details are scratchdivers@hotmail.com or +44 7919 538426 if you need to contact me about anything.

Thanks again for all of your support and I look forward to seeing you all soon.
