Desert Springs Resort to host 2018 PGA EuroPro Tour Championship

Europe’s Leading Development Tour

To Conclude Season At Desert Springs Resort

It gives us great pleasure to announce that Desert Springs Resort has been selected to host this year’s season-ending Tour Championship of the PGA EuroPro Tour sponsored by Andalucía Tourism between Wednesday 24th – Friday 26th October 2018.

The PGA EuroPro Tour is Europe’s leading development tour, and the European Tour’s satellite in the UK and Ireland.

Offering direct access to the Challenge Tour through the final Order of Merit, PGA EuroPro Tour players will compete in 15 main events at some of the UK and Ireland’s premier golfing venues, including Frilford Heath, East Sussex National and Tulfarris Hotel & Golf Resort.

The PGA EuroPro Tour will pay a quarter of a million pounds (£250,000) bonus to any player who wins four tournaments on the 2018 schedule, making it the largest bonus on any satellite tour in the world.

Only the top 60 golfers on the tour’s ‘Race To Desert Springs Resort Andalucía’ after the final event of the regular season at Newmachar Golf Club, Aberdeen qualify to play the Tour Championship which has a prize fund in excess of £100,000.

The best players on Europe’s leading development tour will be competing to seal their place in the top five on the ‘Race To Desert Springs Resort Andalucía’ Order of Merit at the end of the event and earn themselves one of the five Challenge Tour cards available for 2019.

The Tour Championship at Desert Springs will be filmed for a two-hour highlights package to air on Sky Sports in the UK in November, and on 98 networks around the world including Fox International across Asia, Fox Sports Australia, Fox Sports in Turkey, Greece, Malta and Cyprus and StarHub in Singapore, reaching over 400 million homes.

Andalucía’s Tourism Counsellor, Francisco Javier Fernández commented:

“Our investment in the development of Almería goes beyond sponsoring the EuroPro Tour Championship, which will be hosted at Desert Springs Resort & Golf Club in October. This event will be televised in more than 100 countries and will put Cuevas del Almanzora in the golfing spotlight worldwide.”

Pablo Mansilla, President of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, remarked:

“On behalf of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation we are delighted with the celebration of the great final of the EuroPro Tour at Desert Springs. Hosting this type of event is one of the main objectives that we set, as an ideal formula to promote our sport, bringing professional golf to the public and creating references for our players. Thanks to the unconditional support of our institutions and the Board of Tourism and Sports, Andalusia is consolidated as the best venue for the celebration of this type of tournament. On this occasion, the spectacular course of Desert Springs will allow us to show the main outbound markets in golf tourism the rich variety and excellent quality that Andalusia offers to play golf, in an incomparable setting in which, for sure, both players and the public will enjoy our sport very much.”

Desert Springs Director of Golf, Simon Coaker remarked:

“Desert Springs Resort is both delighted and honored to have been invited to be host to the Tour Championship for what is now a third occasion.

The PGA EuroPro Tour has played a vital part in the early careers of some of the biggest names in golf who have gone on to great success, paving the way for Ryder Cup Players, Major Winners and European Tour Winners.

For Desert Springs Resort and the Indiana course to be part of the journey that the best players in Europe travel, is a factor of both benefit and prestige to all at the Resort.

We very much look forward to welcoming the class of 2018 to Desert Springs Resort and to providing them with a wonderful experience.”

Daniel Godding, Director of Operations at the PGA EuroPro Tour commented:

“I absolutely love Desert Springs. I have been a huge fan of the resort since I was first introduced to the venue in 2014. We are delighted to be bringing Europe’s Largest Developmental Tour back to Desert Springs and continue the relationship with the third visit in just four years. Our players are demanding the very best in golf course layout, standard of putting surface and of course standard of practice facilities. Desert Springs offers the best in all the areas of importance to us with excellent service and attention to detail to add. We can’t wait to be back on site and look forward to seeing all the faces that made our events in 2015 and 2016 so successful”.

Desert Springs Director of Golf, Simon Coaker remarked: –

Obviously it is imperative that we provide our property owners and members with as much notice as possible of the programme of events, enabling them to plan their holidays accordingly.”
