Desert Springs Root Academy Competes Summer Camp

 

Fourteen (14) budding young cricket superstars aged between 11-15 years of age attended the ‘Root Academy Children’s Summer Coaching Camp’ accompanied by two (2) coaching staff between Monday 15th – Friday 19th August at Desert Springs Resort, Europe’s only international award-winning luxury family resort and championship desert golf course with its very own dedicated ICC accredited Cricket Ground and Academy, in the Almanzora region of Almeria, Andalucía in south-east Spain.  

Parent Keith Hopkins remarked of Desert Springs Resort and the training camp;

“The boy’s have loved the training, they have learned so much.  I will certainly be recommending the Desert Springs Root Academy and Desert Springs Resort to players and parents.”

Parent Guy Thistlewhaite also commented;

“My son took part in the Root Academy at Desert Springs this August. It was a really fulfilling experience for him. We had a great time all round. Obviously the facilities are top class, as is the accommodation. All levels were catered for by an experienced and top quality coach. I highly recommend attending the course, it’s a great way to enjoy a fantastic facility and area of Spain.”  

The focus of the coaching camp was to provide an opportunity for the players to work closely with the coaching staff on key technical skills in their batting, bowling & fielding skills as well to take advantage of the ‘Semi Open Net’ facility at the match ground to create match style situations. The culmination of the coaching camp resulted in a three (3) match series, consisting of a Test Match, T20 and Hundred matches.

Attendee Teo T (Madrid Cricket Club) remarked of his own experience of the camp;

“I had such a great time at the Root Academy Summer Camp at Desert Springs Resort. The best thing was the other families there, I made some great friends and everyone was so nice.  It was so great to play on such a professional facilities. Peter, the coach, was great. He helped me improve different bits of my game. The resort is fantastic, we all played in the pool after the session and our apartment was perfect.”  

Thomas N Camp attendee remarked;

“The cricket ground and all the facilities were great.” 

The parents and players were accommodated in some of the privately-owned Apartments and villas at Desert Springs and the resort’s executive chef was on hand to cater for the special dietary requirements of individual players dining in El Torrente Restaurant.
