Devon Seniors Cricket Club complete training camp at Desert Springs Resort

With the domestic cricket season now in full swing, Devon Seniors Cricket Club have now returned to the UK after completing a successful seven (7) day training camp at Desert Springs Resort, Europe’s only international award-winning luxury family resort and championship desert golf course with its very own dedicated Cricket Ground and Academy, in the Almanzora region of Almeria, Andalucía in south-east Spain.

Between Wednesday 24th – Sunday 28th April, Desert Springs was host to the ‘Desert Springs Over 60’s Championship’ at the Desert Springs Cricket Ground.

Devon Seniors CC competed in a Triangular T20 against Oxford University Women’s Cricket Club on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th April and The Wanderers on Saturday 27th April, to allow for them to prepare for the season ahead.

Peter Shephard, Devon Seniors CC Communication Officer commented:

“Desert Springs Resort is an excellent facility for a pre-season tour. Nick Gaywood has looked after us well. The accommodation is good with excellent cuisine and plenty of choice.”

Devon Seniors Cricket Club players said of their pre-season training camp at Desert Springs Resort:

“Nick was a genial host and succeeded in looking after all of our needs. His organisation was faultless (unlike his batting!) and our stay was a pleasant one. The cricket facilities were first-class and the opposition just right to provide the pre-season warm up we were seeking.” Barry Flicker

“Our stay at Desert Springs has been a delight. Nick, Ellie and the team have been nothing but excellent hosts. Accommodation and food second to none. The cricket facilities have been great, giving us a fantastic start to our season. The matches we played against OUWCC and the Desert Springs Wanderers were very enjoyable.”

Neil Price

“Good facility for early season practice. Nick was a friendly, helpful and encouraging host. Accommodation comfortable and food good. Friendly but competitive games played in a good spirit.”

Andy Rose

Accommodation for the players was in some of the privately-owned apartments at Desert Springs Resort normally reserved for holidays and short breaks and the resort’s executive chef was on hand to cater for the special dietary requirements of individual players dining in the resort’s El Torrente Restaurant.
