Desert Springs’ LET tournament professionals Trish Johnson and Becky Brewerton made an excellent start to their 2007 campaign on the Ladies European Tour at the Tenerife Open last week. Finishing 2nd and 4th respectively, both players increased their chances of Solheim Cup team selection.
Both Trish and Becky had spent much of their time in residence at Desert Springs this winter in preparation for the 2007 season. Trish, winner of 18 titles on the European Tour said: –
“I really needed to work on my putting this winter and the greens and academy facilities at Desert Springs are ideal for this, the golf course is superb and the members and staff have all been so friendly, so much so that we have now purchased a property at the resort, it feels like home already!”
The players recently attended the Club ‘Captain’s Charity Drive In’ event, together with Director of Golf Simon Coaker and Club Captain Helen Lavis, their stunning total of 15 under par raised over 1,000 Euros for the Asociación Española Contra El Cáncer (A.E.C.C.). Not content with this, the girls pledged 5 euros for every birdie they make on tour this year to the charity – with 25 birdies notched up at the first event they are not going to be the only winners around!
Christine Langford, Ladies Golf Co-ordinator said: –
“Everyone here is very excited that Trish and Becky are representing the club and spreading the word about what we have to offer. We are looking forward to some exciting events in the winter months when the players will be based here full time. As well as the ‘Golf4All Pro-Am’ to be held January 6th -8th there will be some special ‘Academy Events’ organised with the participation of both Trish and Becky.”
The Ladies European Tour features on the Sky Sports Golf night programme every Thursday – Sunday, so you can keep up with the progress of the Desert Springs Tournament Professionals.
