Golf 4 Women

The inaugural Desert Springs Lady Captains Open Trophy Day, held on June 28th was supported by 13 teams representing 8 different Golf Clubs from the regions of Almeria and Murcia.

The day began with a welcome golf clinic hosted by Desert Springs’ Ladies Golf Coordinator Christine Langford. Christine was on hand to give advice and coaching during the pre-tournament warm-up session.

The tournament was played in a Texas Scramble format with stableford scoring. Play was extremely competitive; the winning team from Hacienda del Alamo was triumphant with a great score of 48 points! The Hacienda team of Imelda Brady, Mary Haskins together with Susan Smith and her daughter Vicky were all playing the course for the first time and loved every minute of it! Vicky, a 5 handicap player, also won the longest drive with a monster tee shot at the 10th hole.

Runners-up in the tournament were the home team from Desert Springs, captained by Helen Lavis playing alongside Marianne Manus, Wikki de Graaf and Carole Day they amassed a score of 46 points, a good performance from the locals.

The event was supported by the Golfers Link publication whose editor June Everson was on hand to speak to the ladies and commented; ‘everyone has had a wonderful time, the event has been a huge success and it is wonderful to see what Desert Springs is offering for the Women Golfer in their ‘Golf 4 Women’ programme and I am sure that next year even more teams will want to participate.’
