Golf Club News

Dear Member / Property Owner,

The Desert Springs tournament and social schedule for 2007 had been designed in full consultation with the officers of the Club, to reflect the continuing interest and support shown by our property owners and members and the frequency of visits to the resort being made throughout different times of the year.

During the first four months of 2007, Desert Springs Golf Club has hosted 12 tournaments for members, residents, their guests and visitors, which have been supported by more than 400 players. This is a reassuring number and it has been pleasing to see so many returning to the Resort more and more often to play The Indiana, demonstrating the commitment of all concerned to ensure the continued success and growth of the Club, in turn providing a real Club atmosphere.

To ensure that this support continues and in the knowledge that all property owners and members need to have as much notice as possible with respect to any addition to the programme of golf events, thus enabling them to plan particular holidays accordingly; further to a meeting and in full consultation with the Club officials held on Thursday 5th April, I would like to inform you of some additions and amendments that have been made to the calendar of events to be held at Desert Springs Golf Club this year. This information can also be viewed on our official website www.almanzora.com.

The Desert Springs Golf Club Tournament Calendar 2008

In full consultation with the officers of the Club, after a review of the Tournament Calendar for 2006 and an analysis of the events that were played, when they were played and the number of entrants that competed, the 2008 calendar has been compiled to reflect both those tournaments which have proven to been well supported and to schedule events for times of the year when a high number of members are generally at the resort.

It is the intention and wish of the club management and committee to continue to raise the profile and support of club tournaments to all golfers, both members of Desert Springs Golf Club, guests and visitors, by providing a full, balanced and well organised calendar of events.

Please find enclosed the agreed 2008 Desert Springs Golf Club Tournament Calendar which we trust fits well with any travel arrangements you are planning for next year and will enable you to enjoy as much competition golf over the Indiana Course as you can handle!

You will be able to keep up to date with the full tournament and social schedule, format and any additions, information of how to enter, and much, much more by visiting either our official website www.almanzora.com or alternatively, reading the notice boards in both the Men’s and Ladies locker rooms in the Clubhouse whilst at the Resort.

The ‘Spanish Seniors and Ladies Professional Championship’ 2007’

The ‘Spanish Seniors and Ladies Professional Championship’ / ‘Campeonato De España Profesional Senior y Feminino 2007’ will comprise a field of 80 of the best Men’s Senior and Lady Professional Golfers in Spain, competing over 3 days on the Indiana Course, with the quality of golf promising to be of the highest standard, in their attempt to become the respective 2007 Champion.

Desert Springs has been building its reputation by hosting such prestigious events as the ‘Spanish National Under-21’s Championship in 2002 and the ‘Copa del Rey’ in both 2004 & 2007.
The hosting of this event not only further confirms the quality of The Indiana Course and its Golf Academy; it will also contribute to further enhancing the name awareness of Desert Springs in the golfing World and is seen as yet another positive step forward for the promotion and reputation of the Desert Springs Resort & Golf Club.

Desert Springs Golf Club Reservation Rules

Finally, as a consequence of the increase in golf reservations being made for The Indiana Course and the growth of membership at Desert Springs, I would like to remind you of the ‘Advance Reservation System’ which was specifically designed to accommodate members’ play as detailed in Section 10 of the Desert Springs Golf Club Rules.

10.2: – In the interests of ensuring that members have reasonable playing time options and availability, one half of the golf course capacity shall be held available at all times up to the end of the PREPOS for members to make reservations for themselves and for Members Family Guests, Members Guests and Members Occupiers, except in the case of Special Events or during other periods when restrictions are imposed by the proprietors for operational or other reasons.

10.3: – Reservations under the PREPOS facility may only be made by members personally. All bookings and reservations made during the PREPOS must be paid for in full at the time of booking by all players.

10.4: – The PREPOS will be a rolling period of 90 days ending 30 days prior to the date to be booked. This may be adjusted from time to time by the Director of Golf who shall also determine golf course capacity.

10.5: – For the purpose of discouraging misuse of the PREPOS facilities, depriving other members of the opportunity to book or incurring losses to the Club, any Member, Members Family Guest, Members Guest or Members Occupier, who does not arrive in time for their reserved tee off time, or who cancels within 7 days of the date of the reservation made in the PREPOS period, will automatically cause that Member to be charged for the round missed at the Members Special Green Fee rate and any Members Family Guest, Members Guest or Members Occupier will forfeit the full cost of the green fee paid at the time of booking.

10.6: – The Club may make the course available to the Public as green fee players and for special events and tournaments at their discretion.

10.7: – All bookings and reservations made by any person during the Public Reservation Period (PRP) must be paid for in full at the time of booking for all players.

10.8: – For the purposes of discouraging misuse of the PRP facilities, depriving other players of the opportunity to book or incurring losses to the Club, any member, who does not arrive for their reserved tee off time, or who cancels within 7 days prior to the date of the reservation made in the PRP, will be automatically charged for the rounds missed at the Members Special Green fee rate and any Members Family Guest, Members Guest or Members Occupier will forfeit the full cost of the green fee paid at the time of booking.

Any Public green fee player who does not arrive for their reserved tee off time, or who cancels within 14 days of the date of the reservation made in the PRP will forfeit the full cost of the green fee paid at the time of booking.
