Golf Course Maintenance

GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT’S

NEWS LETTER

SEPTEMBER 2014

Dear Member / Property Owner,

Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in July, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course in August, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in September 2014.

AUGUST COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE

Fungicide Spraying

The preventative application of fungicides to help safeguard and protect the course against strong summer turf grass diseases has been completed as per the schedule.

Golf Course Landscaping Improvements

The new palm trees were planted, on the 1st August,  running up the right hand side fo the 18th hole with the aim of preventing an errant hit golf shot ending up out of bounds entering properties. Disruption to golf was kept to an absolute minimum.

SEPTEMBER COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME

Fungicide Spraying

The preventative fungicide spraying program of all grass areas will continue on an as-needed basis. This safeguard helps protect the course against strong summer turf grass diseases. Signs will be placed on Tee 1 and Tee 9 to remind all players that spraying is in progress. The reception staff will also advise players before play when spraying is in progress. Please remember to wash your hands after play.

Annual Golf Course Verti-Cutting, over seeding and Sand Topdressing Program

The maintenance program of verti-cutting, over seeding and sand topdressing will commence on Tuesday 9th September, on all rye grass areas of the golf course to improve the turf quality and density after the summer months. During this time a local rule of “preferred lies” will be introduced. The reception staff will be updated with the golf course conditions on a daily basis. The program will take 2 weeks to complete.

Bermuda Grass Encroachment

During the summer months warm season grasses flourish and encroach into the playing surfaces of the golf course. A non-selective herbicide will be used to treat Men’s tees 1. The small area sprayed will turn white and have a dry appearance. The affected area will be over seeded once the Bermuda grass has been controlled.
