Golf Course Maintenance

Dear Member / Property Owner,

Following on from the ‘The Golf Course Superintendents News Letter’ sent to you in July which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course in August, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in September 2013.

Fungicide Spraying

The preventative application of fungicides to help safeguard and protect the course against strong summer turf grass diseases has been completed as per the schedule. The monthly spray program will be ongoing throughout the summer months.

 Hand Watering

The programme of hand watering the greens and tees continued as per the schedule.

Bermuda Grass Encroachment

Ladies tee 7 and Men’s tee 11 have been sprayed with their first application of Roundup.

Unión Deportiva Almeria “B” Football Training Camp at Desert Springs

A squad of 25 players and 8 officials from Unión Deportiva Almería “B” (Almeria Football Club) returned to the Desert Springs Resort for the second consecutive year to enjoy the facilities of the Desert Springs Football Academy for their pre-season training camp from Monday 5th August to Thursday 8th August.

Fungicide Spraying

The preventative fungicide spraying program of all grass areas will continue on an as-needed basis. This safeguard helps protect the course against strong summer turf grass diseases. Signs will be placed on Tee 1 and Tee 9 to remind all players that spraying is in progress. The reception staff will also advise players before play when spraying is in progress. Please remember to wash your hands after play.

Annual Golf Course Overseeding and Sand Topdressing Program

The overseeding and sand topdressing program will commence on Tuesday 10th September on all rye grass areas of the golf course to help improve turf quality and density after the summer months. During this time a local rule of “preferred lies” will be introduced. The reception staff will be updated with the golf course conditions on a daily basis.

Bermuda grass Encroachment

During the summer months warm season grasses flourish and encroach into the playing surfaces of the golf course. The second and third applications of a non-selective herbicide will be used to treat Men’s tees 11 and Ladies tees 7. In additional Men’s tee 6 and green’s approach 4 will also be sprayed. The small areas sprayed will turn white and have a dry appearance. The affected areas will be turfed in September.

2013 and 2014 Greens Hollow Coring Dates

In the knowledge that all Property Owners and Members need to have as much notice as possible concerning particular aspects of the golf course maintenance schedule that may temporarily effect the playing conditions of the greens surface, thus enabling them to plan particular holidays accordingly, please see below the remaining hollow coring date for 2013 and the new hollow coring dates for 2014.
