GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT’S
Dear Member / Property Owner,
Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in February, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course in March, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in April 2016.
MARCH COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE
Driving Range tee
The grass driving range tee will stay open until Tuesday 12th April, 2016
The verti draining of the fairways will now take place in the autumn of 2016.
Green’s Collar Turfing
The program of replacing turf on the green’s collars has been rescheduled. Bunker renovation work has taken priority.
Many of the bunker edges, over time, have lost their definition and need rebuilding with new turf. All the bunkers on the golf course have been assessed and where needed, these bunkers have been renovated. The white half moon metal stakes will stay in place until the turf has established new roots.
Solid Tining Greens
The program of solid tining the greens was completed as per the maintenance schedule.
Tee sand topdressing, verti-cutting and overseeding
The program of sand topdressing, verti cutting and overseeding the tees has been completed.
APRIL COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
Hollow Coring Greens
As previously advised, please be reminded that the greens will be hollow cored on Monday 11thApril and the practice area will be closed on Wednesday 13th April. The hollow coring of the greens is a maintenance practice which is scheduled each year to both maintain and enhance the playing quality of the putting surfaces with which we are accustomed at The Indiana. This practice creates the required environment for strong vigorous roots to grow, the very essence of golf course maintenance.
Driving Range Grass Tee
The driving range tee will be hollow cored, verti-cut and overseeded as part of the renovation program to improve the playing surface. The driving range tee is scheduled to be reopened in June.
