Golf Course Superintendent Newsletter December

GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

NEWS LETTER

DECEMBER 2019

Dear Member / Property Owner,

Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in November, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in December 2019.

NOVEMBER COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE

Hollow Coring Fairways

The overseeding and topdressing of the weak fairway areas continued throughout November. Hollow coring of the fairways shall take place in the new year.

Golf Course Greens

The original putting green and the 8th green of The Indiana were hollow cored as per the schedule. The original putting green will remain closed until it has completely recovered allowing for putting practice to continue on the recently opened new putting green. The 8th green is now showing signs of improvement. The remaining greens will be solid tined monthly.

Hollow Coring Collars

Due to a high level of golf tournament activity during November, the hollow coring of the collars has been deferred to December.

14th Hole Landscaping

The golf course teams have been working on clearing and tidying up the landscaping areas of the 14th hole. This work will also help reduce the amount of rabbits that have done so much damage to the playing surfaces of the 14th hole.

DECEMBER COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME

14th Hole Landscaping

The golf maintenance teams will continue to clear, prune and improve the overgrown landscaping areas of the 14th hole. The areas around the tee complex and at the back of the green will also be cleaned to improve the aesthetics of the hole.

Hollow Coring Collars

The golf course collars will be hollow cored, sand topdressed and seeded to improve the turf grass density.

Verti Draining Fairways

The aeration of the fairways by verti-draining will begin in December. This particular aspect of golf course maintenance is both extremely necessary and time consuming, so we ask you to please bear with us until it’s completion. Disruption to play, as always, will be kept to an absolute minimum.
