NEWSLETTER

JUNE 2021

Dear Member / Property Owner,

Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s Newsletter sent to you in May, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in June 2021

MAY COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE

Cleaning of Desert & Tee Areas

The Island on the 14th hole has been cleaned and cleared of all unwanted vegetation as well as the lake shore from the lady’s tee to the green approach.

Verticutting and Aerification of Approaches and Collars

The approaches and collars have been topdressed with sand to promote uniform growth and smooth the playing surface.

Bunker Restoration

The bunkers on holes 2 and 18 have been re-edged and sand rotovated and refreshed where needed. Holes 3,6 and 14 have had one or more bunkers completed as well.

Topdressing Fairways

Fairways 10,11,13 and 6 have been topdressed with sand to help promote the growth of the paspalum and strengthen weaker areas.

JUNE COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME

Bunker Restoration

We will continue with the restoration of the bunkers.  Due to extreme winds that can materialise from time to time in our area, many bunker faces have overgrown over the years as a result of sand accumulating on the grass above the bunker.  Where it is possible, we will be removing the sod and then the excess sand to restore the bunker faces to their original design.  With the roughs having been converted to tall fescue, due to its strong root system maintaining the bunker edges will be an easier task.

Verticut and Topdress Greens

The greens will be lightly verticut and topdressed with sand as part of the agronomic programme to control the levels of organic matter build up and promote new growth.  This process also helps the greens both become and remain firm and true.

You will be able to keep up to date with the full tournament and social calendar, format and any additions, information of how to enter, and much more, by visiting either our official website www.desertspringsresort.es or by contacting the Resort Reception at Desert Springs.

We and the staff at Desert Springs are looking forward to seeing you on The Indiana course in the near future.

Kind regards,

Zachary LaPorte
