Golf Course Superintendent Newsletter September

GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

NEWSLETTER

SEPTEMBER 2021

Dear Member / Property Owner,

Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s Newsletter sent to you in August, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures which were scheduled to take place on The Indiana Course, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in September.

AUGUST COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE

Verticut of Fairways and approach

Several fairways and approaches have been verticut to promote new growth of stolons to maintain a healthier and denser turfgrass.

Topdressing of Fairways

During the very active growth of the paspalum throughout this month, the fairways have been successfully topdressed with sand.  The results are already visible where weaker areas have filled in more rapidly and with a noticeably healthier turf.

Aerification and Verticut of the Tees

The tees have been aerified and verticut to ensure proper drainage and promote new stolon growth of the recently established paspalum.

Cleaning and Planting Right Side of Hole 4

The right side of Hole 4 has been cleared and cleaned of old overgrown vegetation and has been replanted with new material.  This will make the hole more aesthetically pleasing and playability and speed of play should improve.

SEPTEMBER COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME

Throughout September we shall be dedicating our resources and time to the general maintenance of the golf course and the improvement of existing playing surfaces. This will include light verticuting and topdressing to the greens to remove excess thatch that has developed during the hot summer months, fertilization of all surfaces, re-seeding where needed and a more intense bunker maintenance programme.

You will be able to keep up to date with the full tournament and social calendar, format and any additions, information of how to enter, and much more, by visiting either our official website www.desertspringsresort.es or by contacting the resort reception at Desert Springs.

We and the staff at Desert Springs are looking forward to seeing you on The Indiana course in the near future.

Kind regards,

Zachary LaPorte
