Dear Member / Property Owner,

 

Following on from the Golf Course Superintendent’s News Letter sent to you in September, which was designed to keep you up to date with all of the important maintenance procedures, we are pleased to be able to give you an update on the works carried out and to inform you of the schedule of works which shall take place in December 2017.

 

 

COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE

 

Hollow Coring Collars

 

The condition of the green’s collars after over seeding is not as expected. The collars will be hollow cored, topdressed and addition seeding will take place. The green’s collars on holes 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 have been hollow cored.

 

Verti Draining Fairways

 

The verti draining program of the fairways has started, with the completion of hole 7. During this time damaged areas, divots and rabbit scrapings will be topdressed and seeded by hand.

 

Rabbit Fencing

 

Rabbit fencing has been placed from the back of the 3rd green along the perimiter of the golf course to the 15th green complex. An internal rabbit fence has also been palced on the left hand side of hole 14.

 

DECEMBER COURSE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

 

Hollow Coring Approaches

 

The green’s approaches will be hollow cored, topdressed and overseeded. These procedures will help reduce soil compaction and improve both turf grass quality and playing conditions in front of each green.

 

Verti Draining Fairways

 

The program of verti-draining the fairways will continue into December and January. This particular aspect of golf course maintenance is both extremely necessary and time consuming, so we ask you to please bear with us until it’s completion. Disruption to play, as always, will be kept to an absolute minimum.

 

Hollow Coring Collars

 

The remaining course collars on holes 1, 2, chipping and putting green will be hollow cored.

 

Winter Landscaping Projects

 

The landscaping team will be working on the following projects in the next few months; the olive trees will be pruned extensively to promote new growth, the removal of Agave plants effected by Picudo Negro and the pruning of the plumbagoes down the right hand side of the 1st hole. An outside contractor will be pruning over 100 Washintoniga palm tree around the golf course.

 

Solid Tining Greens

 

The greens will be solid tined with 5mm pencil tines from Monday 11th December,  increasing oxygen uptake to the root system. These holes are only open and noticeable for 2 days.

 

2018 Greens Hollow Coring Dates

 

In the knowledge that all Property Owners and Members need to have as much notice as possible concerning particular aspects of the golf course maintenance schedule that may temporarily effect the playing conditions of the green’s surface, thus enabling them to plan particular holidays accordingly, please see below the hollow coring dates for 2018. These dates are subject to change due to weather conditions.
