Title: Phil Defreitas Returns to Desert Springs with Coaching Academy

We are delighted to announce that Phil Defreitas, or ‘Daffy’ as he is more commonly known, is returning to Desert Springs Resort once again with ‘Next Generation Cricket Development’ between Monday 27th March – Saturday 1st April to complete a 6-day cricket tour to prepare for the season ahead, at the ICC accredited Desert Springs Cricket Ground & Academy.

Ten (10) players and Eleven (11) parents and coaches will be involved in a mixture of high performance training, spending their time completing a specific and carefully planned programme of numerous training sessions each day covering technical skills, bowling and batting, strength and conditioning and both individual and group activity.

NGCD will compete in a T20 and a 40 over fixture against Bryanston School on the ICC Accredited Match Ground during their stay at Desert Springs Resort.

The players and coaches will be accommodated in some of the privately-owned Apartments at Desert Springs and the resort’s executive chef will be on hand to cater for the special dietary requirements of individual players dining in The Crocodile Club restaurant.

Title: Phil Defreitas completes innaugural Cricket Coaching Camp at Desert Springs Resort

After a long and distinguished International and County career Phil Defreitas, Cricket Coach with ‘Next Generation Cricket Development’, completed a four (4) day training camp between Friday 14th – Tuesday 18th February, imparting his knowledge and experience to a lucky group of ambitious cricketing youngsters at Desert Springs Resort, Europe’s only international award-winning luxury family resort and championship desert golf course with its very own dedicated Cricket Ground and Academy, in the Almanzora region of Almeria, Andalucía in south-east Spain.

Phil Defreitas, ‘Next Generation Cricket Development’ Coach remarked of Desert Springs Resort and the training camp;

“All the cricket facility I rate as a 10 with an exceptional standard of service. I come back in April with another group, but I am also booking for February 2021!”

A specific and carefully planned programme of numerous training sessions each day covering technical skills, fielding drills, bowling and batting, strength and conditioning and both individual and group activity took place at the Desert Springs Cricket Academy & Ground.

Next Generation Cricket Development’ players said of their training camp experience at Desert Springs Resort:

Title: Phil Defreitas Selects Desert Springs Resort for Cricket Coaching Camp

Phillip Defreitas, or ‘Daffy’ as he is more commonly known, is widely respected as one of the finest professional cricketers to have competed in the domestic game, retiring after an astonishing twenty consecutive seasons having reached the rare double of 10,000 first class runs and 1,000 wickets.

He arguably achieved every cricketing goal possible over his career, playing for Lancashire and captaining both Leicestershire and Derbyshire. He played cricket regularly for England between 1986 and 1996 and acquired a reputation as one of England’s finest all-rounders.

After a long and distinguished International and County career Phil Defreitas is ‘giving back’ to cricket as a Cricket Coach with ‘Next Generation Cricket Development’ which embraces a wide range of cricket activity, and between Friday 14th – Tuesday 18th February, Phil will be visiting Desert Springs Resort to impart his knowledge and experience to a lucky group of ambitious cricketing youngsters.

The players will be spending their time completing a specific and carefully planned programme of numerous training sessions each day covering technical skills, bowling and batting, strength and conditioning and both individual and group activity.

Grass net practice will take place at the Cricket Academy. Strength and conditioning work, running, speed and agility work will be completed at the Cricket Ground and Gym at the Sierras Sports Club.
