On Monday 30th December The British Honorary Consul for Almeria and Economist with Grupo Salvador, Alejandro Guerrero Salvador, hosted his independent and informal ‘Questions & Answers’ presentation at the Desert Springs Clubhouse, which was open to all Desert Springs Residents to attend.
The following points and topics were covered within Alejandro’s presentation: –
Basic Administrative Guidance;
Alejandro looked at the NIE number and Tax ID number, what they are and what they are used for. Time was dedicated to explain the status of tourists and the legal and fiscal residency implications, for those who stay in Spain for longer than 183 days in each calendar year, and the benefits and obligations to the Tax Administration, the allowances before being taxed and the forms to be presented.
Health Care;
Alejandro explained who is eligible for free health care under the Spanish Health system.
Wills & Testaments;
Alejandro stressed the importance of having a Spanish Will with all Spanish assets to enable heirs to find the inheritance procedure both less challenging and less costly.
Inheritance Tax;
This was the topic that generated most questions to Alejandro from the attendees. Alejandro discussed inheritance taxes and the options available to try to limit high inheritance tax payments.
Vehicle Issues;
To conclude the presentation, it was time for discussion on driving licenses and vehicles registration. Alejandro pointed out the importance to those who are Spanish residents who own right hand drive vehicles to have them registered in Spain with Spanish number plates, as well as the two options available regarding British driving licenses: (A) Inscription in the Spanish Drivers Registry or (B) Exchange for a Spanish Driving License.
This was the first occasion that Alejandro had presented to Desert Springs Residents and the feedback provided has proved it to be beneficial for those who attended.
