Malvern College Cricket Academy complete pre-season training camp at Desert Springs Resort

With the domestic cricket season now in full swing, Malvern College Cricket Academy have now returned to the UK after completing a successful four (4) day training camp at Desert Springs Resort, Europe’s only international award-winning luxury family resort and championship desert golf course with its very own dedicated Cricket Ground and Academy, in the Almanzora region of Almeria, Andalucía in south-east Spain.

Between Saturday 13th – Wednesday 17th April, Head Coach Noel Brett, Coach Liam Smith and Girls Head Coach Thea Brookes, accompanied thirteen (13) players, five (5) girls and eight (8) boys aged between 13-15 years, who completed bowling, batting and fielding practice as well as strength and conditioning training sessions and match simulations on the cricket ground, as they stepped up their physical preparations for the 2019 season.

Malvern College Head Coach Noel Brett commented:

“The facilities at Desert Springs have again been first-class and it has been great to get some cricket before the season starts back home. Being able to play outside on the grass pitches has been invaluable and the players have enjoyed every minute. Thank you to Nick and the team for looking after us so well!”

The culmination of the camp saw Malvern College compete against St. John’s School in a competitive T20 Match at the Desert Springs Cricket Ground on Tuesday 16th April.

“The views were amazing which helped create an inviting atmosphere to enjoy a cricket tour. The beds were comfy, and all the staff were kind and chilled.

Overall it was such a fun and enjoyable visit.” Chloe Mackellar

“The rooms were nice with excellent views and welcoming staff.

The facilities were great to train in and I enjoyed the matches on the big ground.”

Georgie Clarke

Accommodation for the players and coaches was in some of the privately-owned apartments and townhouses at Desert Springs Resort normally reserved for holidays and short breaks and the resort’s executive chef was on hand to cater for the special dietary requirements of individual players dining in the resort’s Crocodile Club Restaurant.
