New Practice Facility

The already fantastic practice facilities of the Desert Springs Golf Academy have recently been improved even further, with the installation of a new short game practice facility.  Located at the extreme left hand end of the driving range, the artificial surface measuring 11 metres x 3.5 metressupplied by ‘Huxley Golf’, will be reserved for the exclusive use of members and the Club’s invited guests.

Providing a feel, for all practical purposes, identical to real turf and installed with its orientation towards the two greens, at 55m and 90m, the area has been designed to be used mainly for perfecting those all important wedge shots.  This same surface has been installed at the residences of some of the world’s best known golfers and really has to be tried out for a full appreciation of its superior practice qualities and its ability to contribute to a marked improvement in the user’s short game,

Desert Springs continues to be the winter training base for so many of the English County Squads and for the Welsh Ladies Golf Union, so the new facility will also provide an additional area for these golfers to practice and prepare for their upcoming seasons.   It will therefore tend to reduce their impact on the grass area in front of the driving range, which can get very busy at some points in the year.

Above all it will create more opportunity for all members to practice and groove in their, sometimes neglected, short-game skills that are so much more important at Desert Springs than elsewhere!
