Oxford University Women’s Cricket Club complete training camp at Desert Springs Resort

With the domestic cricket season now in full swing, Oxford University Women’s Cricket Club (OUWCC) have now returned to the UK after completing a successful three (3) day training camp at Desert Springs Resort, Europe’s only international award-winning luxury family resort and championship desert golf course with its very own dedicated Cricket Ground and Academy, in the Almanzora region of Almeria, Andalucía in south-east Spain.

Between Tuesday 23rd – Friday 26th April, ten (10) players completed a programme of ‘bowl throughs’ and match simulations at the cricket ground in preparation for two T20 Matches at Desert Springs Cricket Ground against a representative side from Devon Seniors CC and The Wanderers.

Vanessa Picker, Captain of Oxford University Women’s CC commented;

“We loved Desert Springs and thought it was an amazing place.

The cricket facilities, accommodation, food and downtime options are all spot on.

We played 4 games in 2 days, trained on a grass wicket on the first night and had a leisure day! So, we got just the intense work out we wanted. The girls were also able to do some work to keep up with their studies. Thanks to Devon O60’s and The Wanderers team for playing us and to all the staff at Desert Springs for a wonderful few days!”

Oxford University Women’s Cricket Club players said of their pre-season training camp at Desert Springs Resort:

“We had a great time here at Desert Springs. The facilities are fab and we had a cracking couple of days cricket. Couldn’t have asked for more, apart from perhaps some better batting from us!

Thanks to everyone who made it possible.” Felicity Gush

“Desert Springs has been the perfect place to prepare for the coming season. The facilities are outstanding, and we have been made to feel very welcome here. Thanks to everyone who played a part in the organisation of this trip, which has been a really outstanding experience.” Amy Hearn

“We have had the most amazing start to our season at this delightful resort. Expectations were exceeded the moment our bus reached the top of the hill and we could peer into this sunny wonderland. After being spoilt by the views we were further impressed by the amazingly well looked after ground and loved playing here. It has been an absolute pleasure staying here, topped by the excellent staff. We are so grateful to everyone for making our trip so enjoyable.” Katie Bennett

“Fantastic food and facilities and what hosts! The staff are incredibly attentive and make you feel at home in the sun. Can we come back soon????” Immy Brown

Accommodation for the players was in some of the privately-owned apartments at Desert Springs Resort normally reserved for holidays and short breaks and the resort’s executive chef was on hand to cater for the special dietary requirements of individual players dining in the resort’s El Torrente Restaurant.
