Scotland and Netherlands qualify at Desert Springs Resort

The ICC (International Cricket Council), the global governing body for cricket hosted the ICC Europe Regional Qualifier between Monday 4th and Wednesday 13th September at Desert Springs Resort, Europe’s only international award-winning luxury family resort with its very own ICC accredited Cricket Ground, in the Almanzora region of Almeria, Andalucía in south-east Spain.

The ICC Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup Europe Qualifier brought together four (4) teams, Scotland, Netherlands, Italy and France.  The teams played each other twice in white ball WT20 International matches, with both Scotland and Netherlands winning five (5) matches each,  Net Run Rate (NRR) eventually splitting the teams with Scotland claiming victory.  Scotland and Netherlands will move forward and represent ICC Europe in the Global Qualifier for a place in the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh 2024.

Scotland Interm Head Coach, Craig Wallace commented; “The Facilities for cricket were brilliant, the pitches were the best thing about the stay and allowed us to play the brand of cricket we want.”

Italy Allrounder, Emilia Bartram stated; “The facilities were excellent as always, it was good to have 4 grass nets to train on, the ground played well and the pitches were good”

The Netherlands Head Coach, Jeremy Bray commented; “We had a great experience at Desert Springs Resort, it’s like a ‘Home away from Home’, with high quality accommodation and meal facilities.  Cricket ground conditions were of a high standard”

The players and coaches were accommodated in some of the privately-owned Apartments and Villas at Desert Springs Resort and the resort’s executive chef was on hand to cater for the special dietary requirements of individual players dining in the Crocodile Club restaurant.
