Scottish Golf complete winter training camp

Eighteen (18) players representing the Scottish Golf International U’18’s squad comprising ten (10) boys and eight (8) girls aged between 14 and 17 years, accompanied by six (6) coaching staff, are now back in Scotland having completed a successful 7-day training camp between Saturday 8th – Saturday 15th February at Desert Springs Resort, Europe’s only international award-winning luxury family resort and championship desert golf course, in the Almanzora region of Almeria, Andalucía in south-east Spain.

Gillian Paton, Scottish Golf Performance Manager remarked of Desert Springs Resort and the training camp;

“Desert Springs provides the golfer everything they need, from the golf facilities, to the Club House amenities. Malcolm and his golf operations team were exceptional. They went the extra mile and surpassed our expectations. The club house food and service were also impeccable.”

Karyn Dallas, Scottish Golf Girls Coach commented;

“First class all round. No issues at all, we were treated like royalty. The practice facilities were perfect for what we needed to train various aspects of game to the teams. The options of both flat and contoured putting greens was magnificent and very few facilities can boast this accolade.”

Spencer Henderson, Scottish Golf Boys Coach commented;

“Desert Springs comprises both fantastic facilities and service. This course and practice facilities were the perfect training ground to prepare the players for the coming season. Tighter fairways and the immaculate greens and the quality of surface are second to none!”

Scottish Golf players said of their winter training experience at Desert Springs Resort:

“This was an amazing week to practice for the coming season as the weather at home is shocking! The golf course is phenomenal- greens are fantastic. The tighter fairways help, as going back to play other courses will feel slightly easier with wider fairways. The short game area is amazing, I wish it was my back garden!” Ruben Lindsay aged 16.

This was an amazing trip, along with the great weather, the golf course and driving range/short game were brilliant. The greens are so fast!” Katie Graham aged 14.

“Brilliant resort, I loved the golf course. It’s tough but in amazing condition. Rapid greens and tricky to read. The apartment was nice, and the swimming pool was great to swim in after a long day.” Carmen Griffiths aged 14.

“The Golf course was brilliant. Difficult as I hadn’t played a desert course before, but the greens were great to practice on as they are so quick and in great condition. Would love to come back again.” Cameron Adam aged 15.

The focus of the training camp was to provide an opportunity for the players to work seriously on their individual golfing skills in warm weather, utilising the excellent practice facilities at the Golf Academy and playing the Championship Indiana golf course, to ensure that their games are in the best possible shape leading up to the commencement of the 2020 season.

The players and coaches were accommodated in some of the privately-owned apartments and villas reserved for holidays and short breaks at Desert Springs and the resort’s executive chef was on hand to cater for the special dietary requirements of individual players dining in El Torrente Restaurant.
