Surrey CCC Academy complete Pre-Season Training Camp

 

Eight (8) members of the Surrey County Cricket Club Academy accompanied by four (4) coaches, are now back in England having completed a successful 4-day training camp between Saturday 15th – Wednesday 19th February at Desert Springs Resort, Europe’s only international award-winning luxury family resort and championship desert golf course with its very own dedicated Cricket Ground and Academy, in the Almanzora region of Almeria, Andalucía in south-east Spain.

Matthew Spriegel, Surrey CCC Academy Performance Director remarked of Desert Springs Resort and the training camp;

“Desert Springs is a great place to come to get good quality training facilities at a time when we would be inside. The accommodation & staff make you feel very welcome and the staff looked after us brilliantly. We will come back.”

Surrey County Cricket Club Academy players said of their pre-season training experience at Desert Springs Resort:

Very good facilities to play cricket with good nets/area to field in, etc. The Villa was very nice with large rooms to accommodate.” James Ronay aged 15 yrs.

“The cricket facilities were amazing with lovely nets and a large area for fielding, etc. The staff are friendly and welcoming to all and it was a lovely and welcoming place to stay.” Ahmed Khan aged 15 yrs.

“Desert Springs is a great place and the staff are very welcoming. The cricketing facilities were excellent and provided quality across the nets and ground. A lovely place to stay.” Luke Griffiths aged 14 yrs.

 “Very nice staff and a great villa. Pitches and facilities are in very good condition. Grounds were fantastic, very picturesque.” Callum Porrit aged 14 yrs.

Grass net practice, both bowling and batting, Out-field practice, strength and conditioning work, running, speed and agility work all took place at the Cricket Ground & Academy. The squad utilised the Gym at the Sierra Sports Club for specific fitness sessions.

The players and coaches were accommodated in some of the privately-owned villas reserved for holidays and short breaks at Desert Springs and the resort’s executive chef was on hand to cater for the special dietary requirements of individual players dining in El Torrente Restaurant.
