Surrey County Cricket Club Academy complete pre-season training camp at Desert Springs Resort

 

Nine (9) members of the Surrey County Cricket Club Academy accompanied by three (3) coaching staff, are now back in England having completed a successful 4-day training camp between Saturday 16th – Wednesday 20th February at Desert Springs Resort, Europe’s only international award-winning luxury family resort and championship desert golf course with its very own dedicated Cricket Ground and Academy, in the Almanzora region of Almeria, Andalucía in south-east Spain.

Gareth Townsend, Academy Director remarked of Desert Springs Resort and the training camp;

“Desert Springs provided a first-class experience for our academy training week. The emphasis was on fielding, net and skills development. The grass net facility was outstanding providing reliable quality wickets throughout the week. The accommodation and food was outstanding with all staff making us feel welcome. The service levels were also outstanding, as an overall cricket experience we congratulate Desert Springs on a first-class venue!”

Grass net practice, both bowling and batting, Out-field practice, strength and conditioning work, running, speed and agility work all took place at the Cricket Academy. The squad utilised the Gym at the Sierra Sports Club for specific fitness sessions.

The players and coaches were accommodated in some of the privately-owned apartments reserved for holidays and short breaks at Desert Springs and the resort’s executive chef was on hand to cater for the special dietary requirements of individual players dining in El Torrente Restaurant.
