At the conclusion of three days of competition golf in the Tarleton Travel Ladies Pro-Am, the ladies of Desert Springs Golf Club, “The Slice Girls”, have emerged as tournament champions!
The three days of golf saw 10 teams competing over two rounds at the Valle del Este resort and one at the Desert Springs Resort. Each team consisted of 6 amateur golfers, playing in 2 groups of three, and one professional, with the professional playing 9 holes with each group on each of the days. Using a stableford points format, the best 4 scores from the seven players on each hole were combined to be counted towards the team score.
After day one, played at Valle del Este, the Desert Springs team consisting of Wikkie de Graaf, Christine Cole, Susan Kenny, Kay Dunphy, Hilary O’Herlihy, Marianne Manus and professional Susan Moon found themselves 6 points clear of field on 165 points. Surprisingly, day 2 was not so good for the ladies. Although playing at their home course and with high spirits in their matching team shirts sponsored by Desert Springs, a score of just 146 points left them in second place.
Back to Valle del Este for the final round, where they had their work cut out for them with the favorites, the Dutch team, leading by a point and expected to take the victory. However, the girls produced a fantastic team score of 161 to give a tournament total of 472 stableford points and a massive winning margin over the Dutch of 13 points!
Adding to their combined success, team professional Susan Moon took victory in the individual professionals section with a brilliant three-day combined gross score of 3 over par, making it a clean sweep for the Desert Springs Ladies!
