Trish Johnson

Congratulations to Desert Springs’ tournament professional Trish Johnson who won her 18th career title, in the BMW Open played in Italy. Trish was in spectacular form; she birdied the last 3 holes to finish a shot ahead of her nearest rival. Following her victory Trish was flown to Wentworth to take part in the prize presentation for the BMW PGA Championships awarding the trophy to the winner, Anders Hansen.

The victory moves Trish well in to contention for her 8th Solheim Cup appearance with the next match to be played in Sweden in September, she has also moved into second place in the Ladies European Tour Order of Merit. Speaking to the press after her victory Trish gave credit to Desert Springs’ Academy Director Christine Langford for helping her with her putting during her last visit to the resort.

Members may remember both Trish and fellow Desert Springs tournament professional, Becky Brewerton pledged 5 euros for every birdie they make this season to the Captain’s Charity, with a tally of 96 birdies so far, things are looking good!

The Great Britain and Ireland Team also enjoyed success when they won the Commonwealth Team Tournament in South Africa in May, their first victory in the event for 16 years. The GB&I Squad have held three training camps at Desert Springs over the winter months and will be back again at the end of the year as they prepare for the 2008 Curtis Cup Matches.

The Academy at Desert Springs is host to many Elite Women players and we are very proud of their achievements.
